Calculating…

Risk is estimated from the forecast weather code, rain probability and peak gusts. It's a homeowner's heads-up, not an official outlook. For official severe weather outlooks see the Storm Prediction Center and NWS Austin/San Antonio.

If hail is in the forecast

  • Move vehicles into the garage or under cover.
  • Bring in patio cushions and cover the AC condenser if you can do it safely.
  • Close blinds and stay away from windows during the storm.
  • Afterward, photograph hail on the ground next to a coin or ruler before it melts.

Hail season on the northeast side

Bexar County sits on the southern edge of Texas hail alley. Our biggest hail months are April through June, but as the September 11, 2026 storm proved, a single front in early fall can drop golf-ball stones with no warning beyond a few minutes. The northeast side of San Antonio, from Windcrest out through Converse, Kirby, Universal City and Schertz, takes a disproportionate share of those storms because of how cells track off the Hill Country and along I-35 and I-10.
